Aims
Department is an educational and scientific unit of the University, ensuring the implementation of the educational process, methodical, scientific research, clinical, innovative, educational and other activities.
History of creation
According to the order of the USSR Ministry of Healthcare, № 460 from 14.06.1966, Department of Skin and Venereal Diseases was opened in Tselinograd State Medical Institute. The first head was Candidate of Medical Sciences Levkov Alexander Alexandrovich.
From 1967 to 1979, the work of the department was headed by a participant of the Great Patriotic War, Associate Professor Voshchenkova Alexandra Pavlovna.
In 1979-1984 associate professor V.V. Kalugin was head of the department. In 1984, associate Professor N.I. Mamin headed the department.
After Gulnar Ryskeldyevna Batpenova became a head in 1994, development of the department received a new impulse; carefully preserving the tradition emerged at the department since its inception.
In 2021, the Department of Dermatovenereology and Dermatocosmetology celebrated its 55th anniversary.
Currently, the work of the department is carried out at three clinical bases:
1. In the dermatological unit at the Multidisciplinary City Hospital No. 3
2. In the dermatovenerological department of the Main Military Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
3. In the Educational and Methodological Center of DermEstetClinic.
Activity
· development the strategy of department according to directions and specialties of training, strengthening and development of external relations with employers and education authorities;
· implementation of SCES educational programs for higher professional and postgraduate education in accordance with department profile;
· development of intradepartmental system of specialists training quality;
· conduction of all kinds of lessons by training forms;
· keeping the electronic gradebook by the department employees in accordance with teaching load;
· conduction of department meetings to discuss planned and current issues of educational, methodological, clinical, scientific work of staff and educational work with students;
· development of study programs by department disciplines;
· implementation of integrated teaching-methodical and organizational-methodical support of educational process by profile of department, carrying out of educational and practical trainings;
· development of department work plans and individual work plans of department teachers;
· conduction of all kinds of lessons, supervision of scientific work and master’s students and PhD students’ dissertations;
· carrying out research work at the department and testing of innovative technologies;
· publication of textbooks, manuals and other scientific/educational, educational-methodical literature;
· introduction of research results into practical healthcare (receipt of security documents, acts of implementation in practical healthcare, patents);
· publication of methodological manuals, methodical textbooks on the base of scientific research results of employees and students of the University;
· involvement of students in research work (student scientific society, committee of young scientists, performed research projects); ensuring the publication of students’ scientific works, including international peer-reviewed journals; reception of security documents with the participation of students; providing of students participation in competitions, scientific and practical conferences and competitions of scientific works;
· ensuring the research activities effectiveness: publication of a monograph of republican values (with index ISBN); publication of articles in journals with impact factor; publications (articles) in the Republic of Kazakhstan, CIS and far abroad countries, international journals;
· providing with coverage opportunities at national and international meetings of profile experts and publication of achieved scientific results in special peer-reviewed journals;
· execution of application to present scientific and pedagogical staff for academic titles award such as professor, associate professor of honorary titles; study, generalization and dissemination of best teachers experience; assistance to beginning teachers in mastery of pedagogical skills;
· quality control and implementation of individual plans of department teachers and other types of employees work;
· training, retraining and upgrading the skills of workers with higher and secondary medical education and scientific-pedagogical personnel of higher qualification;
· profile medical work (curation of patients, performance of various therapeutic and diagnostic procedures and manipulations);
· participation in social and cultural activities organized by deaneries and the University administration;
· participation in work of educational-methodical commissions in areas of training in high school and inter university level;
· identification and statement of department objectives, development of measures for achievement of objectives in area of department quality;
· development of corrective and preventive actions;
· provision with means of labour for department staff: definition of needs in material and technical means and making applications for their purchase.
Scientific activity
The main areas of scientific work of the department are topical issues of dermatovenereology and dermatocosmetology: etiopathogenesis of acne and acneformed skin diseases; improvement of treatment methods, study of epidemiology of various forms of psoriasis; comorbid psoriasis condition; development and introduction of therapy methods, clinical and immunological characteristics and immunotherapy of scientific and research dermatovenerologic institute; clinical and pathogenetic aspects and development of effective integrated treatment methods of hair diseases; clinical and genetic features of the course of vitiligo in Kazakh patients; clinical and genetic aspects of male infertility; clinical, psychological and genetic characteristics of Kazakh patients with acne; clinical, psychological and genetic characteristics of patients with chronic dermatoses in Kazakhstan; evaluation of rosacea clinical presentation depending on individual personality characteristics. During all period department has published more than 450 scientific papers, including in the international cited databases Thomson Reuters and Scopus,1 monograph, 18 manuals, 6 pre-patents for inventions, 2 patent, 7 copyright certificates were received. In 2016, the bilingual Atlas of Dermatovenereology (protocol No. 5, dated April 18, 2016), was released; and also 2 manuals on dermatoscopy in 2019. In 2022, the textbook "Non-invasive diagnostics of chronic dermatoses" was approved in three languages. Within the framework of the department's educational and methodological literature, in 2023 the monograph "Glucocorticosteroids in dermatology" (Tsoy N.O., Tsoy O.G.) and the textbook for practicing physicians "Melanoma" (R. Karls, G. Batpenova, T. Kotlyarova, N. Tsoy) were published.
Achievements
Today the department has 90% employees with degree. There are 3 professors, 3 doctors of medical sciences, 2 candidates of medical sciences, 3 PhD, 1 Master of Medical Sciences. Teachers with the highest qualification category 64% - 7 people. Among the staff of the department there are the Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan and 5 "Health Excellence".

The department trained 250 interns and 47 clinical residents. From 1992 to 2001, subordinates-dermatovenerologists of the 6th year studied at the department. In 2008, the department opened a residency in the specialty "dermatovenerology", more than 110 residents were trained. Currently, the department employs 38 resident doctors of the 2nd year of study and 38 resident doctors of the 1st year of study. Since 2011, the department has opened a magistracy (6 master's theses were defended), since 2010 - PhD doctoral studies (4 doctoral theses were defended).
Employees of the department constantly improve their professional level, regularly participate and make reports at international conferences and congresses (RF, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, UAE, France, Latvia, Turkey, etc.). In 2012, the assistant Azanbaeva D.Zh. completed an internship “Cosmetic and Dermatological Surgery” at the Sinai School of Medicine, New York, USA. In 2014, T.A. Algazina and D.Zh.Azanbayeva studied at the Catholic University of Korea, Seoul, South Korea. Associate Professor Touir G.Z. successfully completed an internship under the program "Antimicrobial resistance and the Stewardship program" Karolinska Institute (Sweden, Stockholm). In November 2016, Amantayev D.M. and Aimolina A.A. received a grant to participate in the Berlin Dermatological Days (Berlin, Germany). Tsoy N.O. won a grant to participate in the 5th Munich International Summer Academy of Practical Dermatology, Munich, Germany from July 24 to 29, 2017. In November 2017, assistant D. Amantayev completed podology training at Riga Stradins University (Riga, Latvia). In January 2019, Tsoy N.O. completed a training course on the modern method of non-invasive diagnosis of skin cancer - dermatoscopy at Derma Clinic Riga, Riga, Latvia. In the summer of 2019, assistant Aimoldina A.A. won a grant from Imrich Sarkany Non-European. Memorial Scholarship for participation in the 28th Congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology in Madrid (Spain) October 9-13, 2019. In 2022, the department's employees Dzhetpisbaeva Z.S., Azanbaeva D.Zh., Algazina T.O., Amantaev D.M. completed an internship in surgical hair restoration (transplantation) in Tbilisi, Georgia. Associate Professors of the department Tarkina T.V. and Dzhetpisbaeva Z.S. completed Anatomy MasterClass - July 16-17, 2022, Italy, Milan.
Since 2003 primary retraining (specialization) and advanced training thematic cycles for dermatocosmetologists, laboratory doctors are conducted at the Department. The Department conducts exit cycles of thematic specializations for doctors of Petropavlovsk, Kostanai city and Kostanai region, Uralsk, Kyzylorda, Almaty, Taraz, Shymkent, Aktobe, Karaganda, Kokshetau, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Semey, Taldykorgan. Over the years, more than 1,000 professionals were trained at the courses. Department employees regularly present their scientific reports in the regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Due to the department employees, own conference with the participation of sponsors were carried out:
2000 – scientific and practical conference dedicated to the opening of the branch of the scientific and research dermatovenerologic institute of MOH of Kazakhstan Republic on the base of the Department for dermatovenerologists from Akmola region;

2006 – conference, dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Department;
2014 - scientific and practical Conference "New possibilities of therapy of chronic dermatoses"; scientific and practical conference "The optimal choice of topical steroids for local treatment of dermatoses"; scientific and practical conference "Pyoderma: features of a curse and therapy";
2015 - conference dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Department; Scientific-practical conference "Modern approaches to treatment of chronic dermatoses" in Shymkent; scientific-practical conference "The topical treatment of chronic dermatoses," in Pavlodar, Aktobe and Oskemen.
2017 - training master class on dermatoscopy; International scientific and practical conference of dermatovenerologists and dermatocosmetologists of the Republic of Kazakhstan, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the dermatovenereological service of the Karaganda region; master class "Psychosomatic patients: modern approaches in dermatovenereology and dermatocosmetology"; scientific and practical medical seminar "Modern aspects of diagnostics, treatment and care of patients with epidermolysis bullousa".

2024 - Regional scientific and practical conference "The future in psoriasis therapy".
Since 2007, the Eurasian Congress of dermatology, cosmetology and aesthetic medicine and the International Conference "Age aspects of dermatovenereology and dermatocosmetology" held 1 time in 2 years on initiative of the department of dermatology according to the order of Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana. The events were held with the involvement of professors of medicine from the countries of the Near Abroad, Asia, Africa, Europe, North and South America. More than 500 dermatologists, venereologists, cosmetologists, oncologists, pediatricians and doctors of other specialties take part in this event.
In April 2012 the Kazakhstan Association of Dermatologists, Dermatocosmetologists (KADD) was established with the active participation of Department employees. Nowadays KADD amounts to more than 230 members. Head of the Department, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Batpenova Gulnar Ryskeldievna is a President of Association.
As part of raising awareness of the population about the problem of skin diseases, as well as in order to strengthen the diagnosis, the staff of the department annually holds open days together with healthcare organizations:
• October 29 - Psoriasis Day is held on the initiative of the International Federation of Psoriasis Associations
• June 25 - World Vitiligo Day
• May 15 - World Melanoma Day
• February 28 - Orphan Disease Day.
In the last 3 years alone, the department has implemented 23 scientific projects with the participation of the department's employees: 10 clinical trials and 13 international projects. One of the most significant was an international project jointly with Nazarbayev University on the topic “Development of auxiliary methods for the treatment of psoriasis depending on the structure of the microbiome”, conducted from 2018 to 2020.
Since 2012, at the initiative of the Department of Dermatovenereology, the active introduction of a modern method of non-invasive diagnostics - dermatoscopy has begun. More than 250 dermatovenereologists have been trained in Kazakhstan, and dermatoscopy has been introduced into routine practice in 13 out of 17 regions (Karaganda, Pavlodar, Akmola, Almaty, South Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan, Mangistau, Aktobe, Atyrau, Almaty, Nur- Sultan). In addition, the introduction of such topical profile areas as dermatosurgery, dermato-oncology, and PRP therapy is being actively carried out.
Employees of the Department of Dermatovenereology and Dermatocosmetology are members of several expert councils, such as:
• Expert Council of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the specialty "Dermatovenereology",
• Committee on the specialty "Dermatovenereology",
• Council for Drug Supply under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan,
• Expert advice on "dry skin syndrome"
• Editorial Councils of scientific and practical journals of the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan.
Part of the teaching staff of the department are expert consultants at the hospital of the Office of the President, the main military clinical hospital, international experts and trainers on botulinum toxin.
Every year, representatives of the department are part of the working group for compiling and reviewing clinical protocols for diagnosis and treatment in the specialty "Dermatovenereology"; act as experts in the development of the Standard for the provision of dermatovenereological care and other regulatory legal acts.
