Formation story:

The Chair of internal diseases on internship and residency (current name is the Department of Internal Diseases with courses of Gastroenterology, Endocrinology and Pulmonology) was established in 2009 (order No. 253-from 12.05.2009). The head of the Chair since 2009 is Professor, MD Ainabekova B. A. Associate Professor Sadybekova G. T., assistant Trofimova S. V. participated in the creation of the Chair staff.
 
   Aims:

To form the volume of basic, fundamental medical knowledge that forms the professional competence of the therapist, able to successfully solve their professional issues.
Control over development of universal and professional competences by bachelors, interns, and residents.
 
   Goals:

Involvement of leading qualified specialists of medical organizations in the educational process: lectures, excursions, training sessions, presentations of specialties on clinical bases; assistance to teachers in adjusting the content of training in accordance with new technologies used in medicine in the health management system.
Organization of work of the internist based on various specialized clinical Chairs.
Carrying out educational activities: contests of skill, scientific and practical conferences, etc.
 
   Activity:

The contingent of students at the department has increased over the past three years from 1,134 in 2019 to 1,204 in 2022.
The department has 2 Doctors of Medical Sciences, 14 candidates of medical sciences and 5 PhD doctors. The department's graduation rate for 2022 is 75.8%. 89% of the department's employees work in the Unified National Health Care System (UNHCS). The department trains 4th-year, 6th-year, 7th-year students in the cycle of internal diseases, until 2021 resident cardiologists were trained at the department, until 2022 resident therapists. Currently, pulmonologists, endocrinologists and gastroenterologists are trained in the residency. Along with this, the department annually conducts 9-10 cycles at the faculty of advanced Training. In the 2022-2023 academic year, 3 undergraduates and 5 doctoral students are studying.
The training of bachelors, interns and residents is carried out at 8 clinical bases: multidisciplinary city hospital No 3, Central Hospital with polyclinic of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics, City hospital No. 2, City polyclinic No. 5, City oncological dispensary, National research oncology center (NROC), Defense Hospital of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The staff of the department carries out medical and advisory work at all clinical bases.
All teachers use active teaching methods (PBL, TBL, CBL RBL), 9 clinical scenarios have been developed and implemented in the training of interns and residents.
Students scientific club (SSC) works at the department, members of the SSC participate in the annual international scientific conference of young scientists of the NJSC AMU.
 
   Achievements:

The staff of the department actively participates in the implementation of research projects:
Within the framework of scientific activity in 2016-2017, a research project was carried out "Improvement and implementation of the point system for determining disability, taking into account the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF)". MSO and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2018-2020, the research project "Comprehensive prevention and reduction of mortality from major cardiovascular diseases in primary health care, taking into account climatic, meteorological and environmental factors of the region, was implemented. Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2020-2022, a research project "Determination of microbiomic and genomic biomarkers of rheumatoid arthritis in the Kazakh population" was carried out.
In 2022, the research project "Immunological profile and microbiome markers in assessing the effectiveness of probiotic therapy in RA patients» got started. The project implementation period is 2022-2024.
Cooperation continues with the Scientific Society of Therapists of Moscow, Professor P.A. Vorobyov, with Ariel University, Israel, Doctor of Medical Sciences E.E. Zueva and with the Laboratory of the Human Microbiome and Longevity, the Center for Life Sciences, PI "National Laboratory Astana", Nazarbayev University, Professor A.R. Kushugulova.
In the 2021-2022 academic year, residents graduating in the specialties of gastroenterology, therapy, endocrinology and pulmonology passed the final independent certification from the first time with an average score in pulmonology 3.33, gastroenterology 3.67, therapy 2.67, endocrinology 3.56.
Every year the department publishes about 5 papers in international peer-reviewed journals with an impact factor. In 2021, 21 implementations in practical healthcare were registered. In 2021, 6 copyright certificates were received.
