The History of Creation
The Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy was organized in 2011 as a result of the restructuring of the Department of General and Clinical Pharmacology. Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences T. M. Mazhitov, headed the department. In 2014, the department was renamed to the Department of Clinical Pharmacology Internship; the head of the department was Associate Professor N. K. Dyusembayeva. In 2017 and 2018, “Clinical Pharmacology” was a course in the Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology. In September 2019, Akhmadyar N.S. re-established the Department of Clinical Pharmacology.
Goals
The goal is to train highly qualified specialists who have deep knowledge in the field of clinical pharmacology and are able to apply them for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases.
The main aspects of the department include:
1. Educational activities:
· Providing theoretical and practical training for students, interns and clinical pharmacologists in clinical pharmacology.
· Formation of students’ skills in the rational use of medicines, taking into account the characteristics of the patient and the evidence base.
2. Scientific work:
· Conducting research aimed at studying the effectiveness, safety and interactions of drugs.
· Development and implementation of new methods of personalized pharmacotherapy.
3. Practical application of knowledge:
· Introduction of scientific achievements into clinical practice.
· Training specialists in methods of correcting drug therapy in order to increase its effectiveness and safety.
4. Promotion of rational pharmacotherapy:
· Support of evidence-based medicine.
· Increasing awareness of practical healthcare doctors about modern pharmacological approaches.
Activity
The department provides training in the discipline “Clinical Pharmacology” in the following specialties: general medicine, pediatrics (7th year), profiling related disciplines for residents of 1-2 years of study, undergraduates and doctoral students. Residency in the specialty “Clinical Pharmacology”, PhD and Master’s degree in the specialty “Medicine”, and has electives for 4th and 5th year undergraduates and students of the specialty “Pharmacy”. During the work of the department, 2 PhD doctoral students were trained: Ikhambaeva A.N. and Nurpeisova A.A. and 3 master's students, and also graduated 25 residents in the specialty “Clinical Pharmacology”, who are working in various medical organizations. In the current academic year, 35 residents of clinical pharmacology are studying at the department (10 residents of the 2nd year of study and 25 residents of the 1st year of study).

Participation of the staff of the department in independent accreditation of educational programs in the specialty "Clinical Pharmacology"
Participation of the staff of the department in an independent medical examination
Participation of the department staff in the development of clinical protocols of the MH RK
Participation of the department in the academic mobility of teaching staff and students. The department has 13 clinical bases in highly specialized medical organizations in Astana, where medical care is provided in the “Clinical Pharmacology” profile and residents of the department are trained in practical skills.
