IAEA Regional Course at the National Training Center of the Scientific Research Institute of Radiobiology and Radiation Protection.

On October 10, 2024, a regional training course on quality assurance in diagnostic radiology for medical physicists was conducted at the National training center with a reference laboratory for radiation safety in medicine at the Scientific Research Institute of Radiobiology and Radiation Protection of the NpJSC “Astana Medical University”, in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The curriculum of the course encompassed both lectures and practical sessions, which utilized advanced equipment, including multimeters, phantoms, and test objects available at the training center. The instructional component was facilitated by distinguished experts from the IAEA, along with prominent medical physicists from Europe, including Simona Avramova-Cholakova, senior radiological physicist at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London; Natalia Saltybaeva, medical physicist at the University hospital of Zurich; and Dmitry Shutov, medical physicist at the University of Tartu Clinic.

The experts imparted best practices and contemporary knowledge in the realm of diagnostic radiology, thereby equipping course participants—medical physicists from leading healthcare institutions across the CIS countries, Lithuania, Latvia, and Bulgaria—with essential information for the practical application of their expertise. Both participants and experts underscored the significance of collaborative efforts and expressed strong support for the ongoing initiatives of the training center, conveying their best wishes for its continued success.
