The year 2025 has been declared the Year of Professional Development by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In accordance with the Action Plan for the implementation of relevant measures, training sessions are being organized for specialists in primary health care (PHC), as well as for academic and teaching staff of medical universities and colleges.
One such seminar was held for department heads, heads of academic units, and faculty members of Astana Medical University. The seminar was led by Dr. Serik Omirbayev, Doctor of Economic Sciences and First Vice-Rector of Astana IT University. Dr. Omirbayev is widely recognized as an expert in quality management in education, higher education reform, and the implementation of modern models for assessing university performance.
The certification seminar program included both lectures and practical assignments.
During the training, a number of important topics were discussed, including: the structure of the internal quality assurance system; how to link quality assessment with university management and strategic planning; how to develop internal standards and quality control regulations; and how to prepare for accreditation and external evaluations.
Participants examined how to correctly prepare internal reports on the quality of academic programs to meet both national and international requirements. Real case studies were reviewed concerning course improvement, evaluation of teaching effectiveness, and interaction with external auditors.
Particular attention was given to the experience of foreign universities—how quality control processes are structured in other countries and how these practices can be applied locally.
As a result of the seminar, more than 80 university staff members received certificates. The valuable knowledge and practical tools gained will be used in their work to enhance the quality of education at the university.
The leadership of Astana Medical University extends its gratitude to Dr. Serik Omirbayev for his informative and professional delivery of the training, which is especially relevant in the context of ongoing reforms in the higher education system of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
