Summer School of Radiology

Summer School of Radiology

In the period from June 17 to June 21, 2024, a Summer school in Radiology was held, organized by the Scientific Research Institute of Radiology named after Academician J.H.Khamzabaev. The 30-hour program attracted 5 students, including 3rd, 5th year students and interns.

The training included theoretical classes on the basics of radiology, ultrasound, MRI and CT. The theoretical part covered important aspects of radiology, including the physical principles of medical imaging, the safe use of radiological equipment and the interpretation of results. The lecture material was presented by the Director of the Research Institute of Radiology, Professor Rakhimzhanova Raushan Ibzhanovna and the staff of the Institute, the students studied various diagnostic techniques that are used to assess the condition of organs and tissues. We visited the Museum of Academician J.H.Khamzabayev, where we got acquainted with the history of the development of radiology in Kazakhstan.

The practical part of the program provided participants with a unique opportunity to consolidate theoretical knowledge in practice. The students had the opportunity to work independently on an expert-class ultrasound machine, studying the subtleties of ultrasound diagnostics. They also learned to read the data of MRI and CT scans, mammography, which included the analysis of various clinical cases. During the lessons, special attention was paid to the development of skills for accurate and rapid interpretation of images, which is key for effective diagnosis.

At the end of the program, students took the exam, presenting presentations on various clinical cases of MRI and CT diagnostics, using the knowledge gained. The exam was held in the format of a student scientific conference, where participants demonstrated their analytical abilities and the ability to present information in a reasoned manner. This format has contributed to the development of not only clinical, but also presentation skills, which are important for professional growth in the medical field.

After an intensive course of classes, the participants and coordinators held a cultural event dedicated to French Baroque music at the Astana Opera Theater. This event helped to strengthen friendly ties and create a pleasant atmosphere for further communication and exchange of experience.

Radiology is becoming more and more in demand among senior students of medical universities. Many of them intend to choose this specialty for residency, given the wide opportunities for radiation diagnosis and treatment that it provides. The high level of training and the interest of the participants indicate a growing interest in this field.

We wish good luck to our students and hope to see them at future master classes!
